The tropical climate of Langkawi, characterized by heavy rainfall and high humidity, posed a significant challenge in terms of protecting the buildings from water ingress and maintaining their structural stability.
The issue - concreting and waterproofing
Due to its challenging geographical spot and climate, it would need both concrete protection and waterproofing done together to ensure there is no waterproofing failure during the process of installation.
Concreting: The resort’s structures demanded high-quality concrete with adequate strength to withstand the tropical climate, including exposure to moisture and humidity
Roof Waterproofing: The resort’s roofing system required robust waterproofing to prevent leakage during heavy rainfall and to protect the interiors from water damage.

System used
Roof Waterproofing: To address the roof waterproofing challenges, a multi-layered approach was adopted. This involved the application of a high-performance waterproofing membrane over the entire roof surface, including proper sealing of joints and edges. Additionally, a roof drainage system was installed to efficiently channel rainwater away from the structure.
Balcony Waterproofing: A combination of liquid-applied waterproofing membranes and cementitious-based coatings were employed to protect the balconies from water seepage. The membranes were applied to the substrate, creating a seamless and durable waterproofing layer.
Basement Waterproofing: To prevent water intrusion in the basements, a combination of cementitious coatings and crystalline waterproofing systems were utilized. These solutions effectively sealed the concrete surfaces and formed a protective barrier against water penetration.
Kitchen Flooring: We installed a flooring system comprising of a heavy-duty Epoxy-based mortar system to account for the high foot traffic for the bustling kitchen activities as well as anti-microbial coatings to serve as an additional layer of protection against microbes while enhancing the aesthetics to meet the standards of a luxurious 5-star resort hotel.
